Brighter Outlook for Radio Advertising

Radio station operators have encountered the same threat as other traditional media companies when it comes to their income streams – a shift by advertisers to trendier online media properties. In response, some radio station companies are moving to the online format which presents a growing opportunity. Research concern SNL Kagan predicts that online radio revenues, which should reach $441.4 million or 2.7% of the industry total this year, should grow to $827 million by 2013.

30% of U.S. Consumers To Adjust Travel Plans for Thanksgiving, Rely More on Automobile Travel

According to a new survey from American Express, 30% of U.S. consumers plan to adjust this year’s travel plans for Thanksgiving — historically one of the busiest travel days of the year — but only 21% expect those expenses to decrease compared to last year. Respondents whose plans are changing said they’ll rely more on automobile travel, stay for a shorter time and cash-in rewards to help pay for holiday trips. The most significant changes are from the young professionals — 37% said they’ve adjusted their plans versus the affluent and general population (both 30%).

More than 40% of recently surveyed 18 to 24 year olds said a college or university Web site was the most influential media when choosing a college. Social networks were also influential, cited by a quarter of that demographic in the Summer 2009 Ad-ology Media Influence on Consumer Choice survey.
