Marketers to Target Consumers who are Losing FSA Drug Purchase Benefit
For several years, a sizeable minority of consumers have grown accustomed to purchasing health services and medications with flexible spending accounts (FSA). By setting aside money in these accounts, consumers have been able to fund health-care related expenses on a tax-free basis. Effective this year, changes have been made to FSAs as a result of the new health care legislation. Specifically, consumers can no longer use their FSAs to purchase over the counter (OTC) medications. As a result, these consumers will be making changes to how they purchase these medications and these changes will impact the marketing of these products.
Food Marketers to Shift Emphasis in 2011
As a result of the recession, more consumers started shopping for food and cooking at home. This year, industry watchers expect consumers to begin demanding healthier options at their favorite stores. Food marketers will be catering to this change and they will likely also be marketing their adherence to the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans which was just released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
More Marketers to Use Cinema, Big Event TV to Strengthen Brand
Marketers have been gradually adding cinema to their advertising mix. In 2009, this media format recorded over $580 million in revenue and was on track to grow in 2010 and 2011. National, regional and local advertisers in categories like automotive, entertainment, retail, travel and wireless have been strong performers for cinema media space providers. A new study shows that brands have plenty to gain when coordinating ad releases on Big Event TV and cinema.
Marketers to Promote E-Books as Sales Soar
If 2011 was the year of the e-reader, then 2012 may well be the year of the e-book. Consumers have the option to download books directly to their Kindles, or competing devices. They can also read the latest best-seller on their iPads or their mobile phones. This disruption in the traditional book publishing industry has many established businesses rapidly expanding their e-book offerings. And research shops see a bright future for this sector.
