- There is major opportunity for gas stations to offer alternative fuels to hybrid and alternative vehicles. There are stations that only offer these fuels, as well as those that offer both traditional gasoline and alternatives (such as E85, biodiesel and propane).
- A growing number of gas stations are housing in-store cafes and bakeries to attract more spending. Also, while 48% of gas purchasers say they never go inside the station stores, beverages are the primary reason for drawing those that do go inside.
- Credit card transaction fees are a big challenge for the industry.
